PORTFOLIO

CRANE WORLD WIDE LOGISTICS: Data Migration and Workflow Opt

PORTFOLIO PROJECT # 25

  • Consultant Name: Sousouni Bajis | LinkedIn
  • Project Title: Massive Data Migration and Workflow Optimization at Crane World Wide Logistics
  • Role: SharePoint Administrator, Architect & .Net Developer
  • Duration: 7 months (30 weeks)

Executive Summary

At Crane World Wide Logistics, I was the solo mastermind behind a massive 1.5TB data migration from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2013. It wasn't just a 'lift and shift'; this was a carefully architected migration for a billion-dollar shipping company. The project's stakes were high, requiring deep dives into .Net technologies, JQuery, JScript, and JSON.

Project Description

Technically, this role was like a playground for a .Net developer. The tools I had at my disposal were varied and powerful. SharePoint farms, InfoPath, Visual Studio, HTML5, CSS3β€”you name it, I was working with it. One of my proudest achievements was an intricate GIS Bing mapping solution. Built on a combination of JQuery, JScript, SharePoint, and .Net technologies, it gave Crane real-time, actionable insights into their global shipping routes. The mapping solution was more than just a 'nice-to-have'; it was an operational game-changer for the business.

Task/Challenge

The challenges here were nothing short of herculean. In addition to the data migration, there was the design and implementation of a 12-stage approval workflow. This wasn't a mere 'sign-here' operation; it was an orchestration of 10 distinct approval groups, each with their own requirements and triggers. I tackled this by developing Web forms and Web Services using .Net, all bound together with JSON for data transfer. This workflow eliminated bottlenecks and streamlined the company's internal processes like never before.

Solution

Through this experience, I didn’t just prove my technical skills; I displayed an ability to manage complex projects single-handedly. Beyond migrating an enormous amount of data, my innovative solutions in GIS mapping and workflow optimization set new standards for efficiency and functionality. The end result wasn’t just a successful migration but also a smarter, more effective operations model for Crane World Wide Logistics.
