PORTFOLIO PROJECT # 18

  • Consultant Name: Sousouni Bajis | LinkedIn
  • Project Title: Legacy Systems Migration at Whirlpool with SharePoint 2010 and .NET
  • Role: SharePoint Architect & Developer
  • Duration: 2 months (13 weeks)

Executive Summary

While working on a comprehensive legacy migration project at Whirlpool, my primary focus was on the technical aspects of the transition. I collaborated with business users to draft wireframes and create data models, setting the architectural foundation for legacy systems to be moved into SharePoint 2010. My tasks also involved rigorous data modeling and the documentation of wireframes, laying the groundwork for seamless application development. I worked directly with a team of 4 to gather business requirements and conduct analysis on the applications being migrated to .NET and SharePoint.

Project Description

As a SharePoint Architect & Developer at Whirlpool, my role was deeply technical. I started off by architecting wireframes and data models, aligning them with the business logic for the migration into SharePoint 2010. Using tools like SharePoint 2010 and .NET, I sketched out the architecture and engaged in hands-on coding and configuration. The team and I focused on extracting business logic and requirements to successfully transition various legacy applications into a more robust and scalable .NET and SharePoint environment.

Task/Challenge

The major challenge here was the technical complexity of migrating diverse legacy systems into SharePoint 2010 and .NET platforms. The migration wasn’t just a 'lift-and-shift'; it required careful planning, coding, and the transformation of business logic into technical specifications. My role was not only to understand the business needs but also to translate them into actionable technical tasks.

Solution

To tackle this, I initiated focused stakeholder meetings to understand their business needs in-depth, while also managing a team that was responsible for gathering these intricate details. We used this information to create detailed documentation, which I handed off to the internal development team for implementation. This ensured a seamless and effective migration to SharePoint 2010 and .NET, meeting the business objectives while ensuring technical robustness. The project was successfully delivered, with critical documentation serving as a blueprint for ongoing and future development efforts.
